برای راهنمایی کردن و اطلاع دادن فقط از Tell استفاده می کنیم؛

مثلا:

?Has she told you the good news, yet

Please tell us your name and occupation

The police officer told him to stop

?Can you tell me what happened

بارز ترین نکته اینه که در جملات بالا بعد از Tell یه مفعول داریم. ما هروقت به گیرنده داخل جمله اشاره نکنیم از Say استفاده می کنیم, و یا خیلی ساده تر هر وقت جمله مفعول نداشته باشه؛

مثال:

“Good morning,” said the woman behind the counter

I just stopped by to say hello

I said three words before he interrupted me again

در جملات بالا مفعول نداریم پس از Say استفاده می کنیم.
