از هر دو این موارد برای بیان تضاد استفاده می شود. با یک تفاوت گرامری

پس از despite و in spite of معمولا از اسم، اسم مصدر (فعل با ing) یا یک ضمیر می آید.

تنها تفاوت spite of و despite در of است!

She danced despite her sickness

He spent most of his day outside although it was raining all day

Although the storm was terrible, we safely made it back home

We safely made it back home despite the terrible storm

Although’ and ‘despite‘ میی توانند در اول جمله و یا در وسط جمله استفاده شوند:

Despite the hardships of life, they were smiling

They were smiling despite the hardships of life

Although life had its hardships, they were smiling

They were smiling although life had its hardships

یک اشتباه رایج این است که بعد از despite از حرف اضافه of استفاده کنیم!
